Study Time!

As an athlete here at TU sometimes it can be a little hard to find times to study as much as others do. In fact an athlete will never have the same study time as a regular student during their season of sport. That does not mean that it is impossible to get all of your work done, make a good grade and still play sports, it just means that you will have to put a little extra effort into your studies.

Isn't that a wonderful site??
Personally as a football player here at Trinity we have practice Tuesday-Thursday from 3:00-7:00 p.m. and on Fridays from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Then on Saturdays we have our game and Sunday we have weights and conditioning from 3:00-5:30 p.m. Football does take up a lot of time but if you can manage your time correctly then you should have no trouble getting everything you need to get done. For me, I scheduled all my classes to be over by 12:30 everyday so that leaves between 12:30 and 2:45 to do homework or study or any other work I have. After practice I start homework at around 8:00 p.m. until usually about 11:00 or 12:00 a.m. I believe it is very important to get a good nights rest to be able to function properly the next day so I try to get at least 7 per night.

As for most first years, I have found reading to be the most strenuous and time consuming so start off your homework with that. Some people, including me, rank their homework from hardest to easiest so once you have them ranked start with the hardest. Trust me later down the line you'll be glad that all you have left is a couple math problems or just 2 pages of reading. If you ever fell like you are falling behind or need extra help, see your professor! He/She would be glad to help, i guarantee it!

Laundry, laundry, laundry...

As a Trinity Athlete, one may find it hard to find time to do laundry between class, practice and studying, so here are a few tips or times that will hopefully be as helpful to you as it was for me. A couple items that you may need that will help you are a dirty clothes basket, laundry bag, detergent, and of course money on your Tiger Card.

Most practices or games take place pretty much all week (Monday-Saturday), so this leaves Sunday open. Take advantage of this day, not for personal enjoyment like going out or being lazy, but do things that need to be done like laundry, cleaning, homework, etc. I recommend trying to save the amount of clothes you use through-out the day so you are able to fit all of your dirty clothes into one load when laundry day comes. Try to do laundry at least once a week, trust me your roommate will be very thankful!

The beautiful dryers in Calvert!
Washing and drying your clothes will take around 2 hours to completely finish and it only cost 1 dollar per machine (so $2 total). The washer will take about 30 minutes to finish so in the mean time I suggest doing some light reading that your professor has assigned you or something that would fit in that time period. Also! Do not put to much detergent in, it will be messy if you do! After the washer is done just throw them in the dryer, swipe your card and press start. The dryer says it will take 60 minutes to finish the cycle but give it an extra 5 at the end (it tends to run a little long). During this time you may do a little more strenuous homework or something of the sort. After the dryer is done take your now fresh clean clothes out and you can fold them there or take them back to your dorm to fold them.

Once all is done all it took was really only 30 minutes out of your off day from sports so overall not to bad! I hope this has helped all those Trinity Athletes out there who were having trouble finding time to do laundry! I know it helped me.
